Barbara Sue Swearingen, born July 3, 1948, in Marysville, California, passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 77. She was a devoted follower of Christ, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a faithful servant to others throughout her life.
She truly embodied the heart of a Proverbs 31 woman. Her life was marked by faith, humility, and selfless service. Family was the most important thing to her, and she poured her love, wisdom, and prayers into every generation she was blessed with.
She served faithfully in ministry for many years. She was a youth leader at Atkins Assembly of God for 13 years and a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years. She also served as president and vice president of the Women’s Ministry at Muldrow Assembly of God for three years. She played the organ at Atkins Assembly of God and, alongside her husband Anthony, traveled to nursing homes where they shared music and encouragement with residents.
Her servant’s heart extended beyond the church. She volunteered with the Red Cross at a community hospital in California, ministered in a women’s jail ministry for two years, and worked in the medical field as a manager for over 20 years, always caring for others with compassion and dedication.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Swearingen; her children: Kim and husband Mike Dunigan; David and wife Dayla Brown; Misti and husband Brett Vann; Amanda and husband Keith Biggerstaff; Leonard and wife Lacy Cathey; and her bonus children, John and Nicole Bennett, Tracie Sells, and Rodney Swearingen.
She is also survived by her siblings, Angeline Gray and Richard Parker, and his wife, Glenda.
She leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Erica Villafranca, Trey Brown, Peyton Vann, Kyler Cathey, Colton Cherry, Dakota Cherry, Taylor, Kristen, Brendan, Nova, Ray, Kaden Cathey, Kaleb Cathey, Johnathan, and Nicholas; as well as 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply loved, along with many other cherished family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Earl Parker; her mother, Irene Burrahm; her stepfather, Quinton Burrahm; and her grandson, Trey Brown.
Pallbearers will be Kyler Cathey, Colton Cherry, Dakota Cherry, Mike Dunigan, Andre Villafranca, and Brendan Sells.
Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, service, and love. She lived her life for the Lord, and her example will continue to inspire all who knew her.
