Jimmy Roy Skelton, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away on October 13, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on May 20, 1944, in Hatch, New Mexico, but spent much of his life in Oklahoma, where he moved as a child.
Jimmy is remembered for his friendly demeanor and warm spirit. Throughout his working life, he served his community with dedication, pumping gas, fixing flat tires, and working at convenience stores. His commitment to his jobs reflected his caring nature and willingness to lend a helping hand to those around him.
In a remarkable and defining moment of his early years, Jimmy fell into an irrigation canal at only 18 months old, floating over a mile before being rescued, a miracle that left him unharmed and set the tone for a life filled with resilience and positivity.
An avid junk collector, Jimmy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, sharing stories and laughter with family and friends. His Christian faith was an important part of his life and influenced his interactions with others, providing a sense of purpose and community.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his daughters Geneva and Ron Ussery, and Tammy Morton; his brother Jimmy Dwayne Skelton; He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher William Vanvoris, Roger Glen Jr., Everett Smiles, and Gary Smiles. Additionally, Didi Lee Alexander, his daughter and caregiver, provided him with love and support throughout his later years. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy William and Janet Faye Skelton; beloved wife, Ruby Thompson Skelton, whose memory remains cherished by all who knew them. His legacy of kindness, community spirit, and enduring love for his family will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched.
