Mariah Lynn Sweeney

Mariah Lynn Sweeney, 22, of Sallisaw, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 in Iowa.She was born on December 20, 1994, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the daughter of Gerald Skaggs and Maria Holman. She was a graduate of Sallisaw High School in 2013 where she was an avid athlete playing basketball and softball. She continued her love of sports in college at Bacone in Muskogee where she received numerous accolades in soccer, basketball and academics. She was baptized and saved at the Bod church in Roland. She was a bright and shining star with not only a winning smile but a winning personality to match. She was so full of life and adopted by so many as a friend, sister, and daughter. She is deeply missed and leaves a hole of unproportional magnitude in so many lives.Mariah is survived by her mother, Maria Holman, and two brothers, Brandon Sweeneyand Garrett Cox all of Sallisaw; her father, Gerald Skaggs, and three brothers, James Skaggs, Jesse Skaggs and Blaine Hood of Claremore; five aunts, Marsha Hayes of Fort Smith, Mitzie Holman of Fort Worth, Amy Brown of Vian, Stacy Sweeney of Fort Smith, and Stacy Caughman of Sallisaw. Six uncles, Glenn Hayes of Fort Smith, Jerry Caughman of Edmond, Kenny Downs of California, Clay Sweeney of Holdenville, Mark Sweeney of Sallisaw, and Charles Cox of Texas. Surviving step-siblings of Harlan Cox include Cameron, Mia, and Sullivan; cousins include Talon Caughman, Easton Hayes, Kayla Perrigo, Kendra Downs, Audra Cottrell, Bobby Stovall, Terry Sweeney, Taylor Sweeney, Ciara Sweeney, and Braden Sweeney. Grandparents: Joanne Holman of Sallisaw, Bob and Debbie Skaggs of Vian, Rebecca and Roger Sweeney of Sallisaw. Godparents: Pam and Jack Caughman of Sallisaw and so many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by grandfather Charles Holman, grandmother Nancy Folsom, great grandmother Pearl Burkhart, great grandmother and grandfather, Clayton and Jerene Taylor, and cousins Kenzie Downs, Melissa Witt and Mary Ann Witt.Funeral service will be 3pm, Thursday, August 3, 2017, at theBod Church in Roland.Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Forever Memories Funeral Service. Viewing is 5pm-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home in Sallisaw .Active pallbearers will be Brandon Sweeney, Garrett Cox, Talon Caughman, Harlan Cox,Josh Denny, and Paul Denny. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Caughman, David Sweeney, Gerald Skaggs and Bob Skaggs.
