Rebecca June Sweeney

Rebecca June (Taylor) Sweeney, 84, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and respected school counselor, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Born on June 24, 1941, in Akins, Oklahoma, to Margie Jerene (Wickett) and Clayton Taylor, Rebecca led a life marked by dedication to education, family, and the well-being of those around her.

Rebecca's commitment to learning was a cornerstone of her life. She earned her Master’s Degree and went on to become a counselor, a role through which she touched many lives with compassion and wisdom. Her passion for education was not only a personal achievement but also a guiding light for her family and community.

Family was the heart of Rebecca’s life. She especially cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever. She is survived by her sons, David Sweeney and his wife Lisa, Mark Sweeney, and Clayton Sweeney; her grandchildren, Terry Sweeney and his wife Kelsie, Taylor Sweeney, Brandon Sweeney, and Ciara Brock and her husband Jered; her great-grandchildren, Emilia June Sweeney, Harrison Lee Sweeney, Whitley Kendall Welch, Cooper Rae Welch, Mariah Gracelynn Sweeney, and Aniah Lynn Sweeney.

In addition to her children and descendants, Rebecca is remembered fondly by her sibling, Judy Nanette Taylor Fullbright, and her husband, Billy. Her nurturing spirit also reached many caregivers, whom she cared for deeply and with great respect.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Sweeney, her parents, and her granddaughter, Mariah Sweeney. Their memories remain a vital part of her story and continue to inspire those who knew her.

A visitation will be held on June 3, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Forever Memories Funeral Services, Inc., located at 463505 OK-101, Sallisaw, Oklahoma, 74955
