Vernon Twist, 86, of Westville, Oklahoma, was born on July 24, 1939, in Vian, Oklahoma, and passed away on May 26, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A devoted educator, spiritual leader, and cherished family man, Vernon's life reflected a deep commitment to his community, faith, and family.

Vernon dedicated sixteen years of his career to nurturing young minds as a public school English teacher in Kansas, Oklahoma. He earned his education degrees from Northeastern State University (N.S.U.). Beyond the classroom, Vernon was a Pentecostal preacher for his entire adult life, a role he embraced with proud devotion and heartfelt sincerity, impacting many lives through his spiritual guidance.

His love for the arts was evident in his authorship of two books: a novel and a childhood biography, reflecting his passion for storytelling and preserving memories. Vernon also found joy and solace in fishing and hunting. Music was another of his treasured interests; he loved singing and playing the guitar.

Vernon is survived by his son, Joseph Twist, and his wife, Joyce, of Westville, Oklahoma; his sister, Bea Roberts, of Vian, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kyle Twist and wife, Macie; Casey and Brooke Twist, along with their daughter, Serena and Garris Hudson; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Though his beloved wife Marie Twist preceded him in death, along with his parents George and Bonnie Twist and twelve siblings, the legacy he leaves is enduring through those who knew and loved him.
