Patsy Ruth Weddle was born on September 20, 1928 at High Hill, Oklahoma just N.E. of McAlester, Oklahoma to John Edward and Dena Swindle McLemore. She was the baby of a family of twelve and graduated from McAlester High School in 1947. Determined to go to college she worked four years to earn enough for her first semester at Oklahoma A&M University where she completed her degree in vocational home economics. While a student at Oklahoma A&M University she met the love of her life Curtis E. Weddle, Jr. and they were married April 8, 1955 and made a life and family together for nearly 50 years before Curtis passed away.

In 1970 Patsy, Curtis and family moved to Sallisaw to make their final home and in 1974 she re-entered the profession of education following her passion to teach elementary age children. She taught almost every grade at Brushy School (sometimes three at a time) over the next 21 years.

Her family was all-important and she created and kept a home that was warm, welcome, safe and filled with love and countless outstanding meals. Easter Egg hunts for the church, reunions and cookouts were regular fare on the hill at home. She and Curtis traveled a bit after retirement and she remained active in ADK, an educator's sorority. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for her entire life and supporter of children's charities such as St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Patsy Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Curtis and eleven older brothers and sisters. She is survived by son Curtis E. Weddle, III and wife Glenda of Akins, Oklahoma, daughter Mary C. What a wonderful legacy of a beautiful, sweet, passionate lady. I met Mrs. Weddle while working at Safeway. She encouraged me to go to school and become a teacher, which I did. We later crossed paths again as sisters of ADK! I cherished our friendship! Condolences to her family, you were so blessed to have had her for 91 years!

My heart is sad to hear of her passing. Mrs Weddle was a wonderful teacher and just a sweet person. Years after graduating I would run into her in town. She still remembered me and my friend Alisha. We've lost an Angel. My prayers go out to her wonderful family. She loved you greatly as I am sure you know.

I am so saddened to have read this. She was my Kindergarten teacher at Brushy School. She was a inspiration to me. Have very fond memories of her. She was a very wonderful teacher. I always wanted to be like her. I always wanted to be a teacher like her. She was my inspiration to be a teacher even though I didn’t get to college. I have taught Sunday school and work with the children in my church because she was my inspiration. She is really going to be missed. I send my heart felt condolences. And I will be praying for you and your family.

Message from John “Johnny” Phillips

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Mrs. Weddle was one of the sweetest, kindest, people I’ve known. She wasn’t just a teacher, she was a friend.
Mrs. Weddle truly cared about her “kids” and it showed in her smile....one that I’ll always remember. I can’t think of Brushy School without thinking of Mrs Weddle.
We’ve lost a good one down here, but heaven has gained a great one.

Message from Teresa Weddle

I am Pats niece by marriage, to her (favorite nephew). She adored my husband Vernon, Jr.
Vernon and I took many trips to visit Curtis and Pat, and the young whipper snapper John. As the years rolled on, we had our children Vernon3, and Cheyenne. They also made many trips with us to Sallisaw.
Favorite memories were pressing cider with Curtis and the wonderful meals Pat prepared. And always the holding of hands to pray.
Curtis and Pat made us feel so welcome, we couldn’t wait to return.
Pat and I shared many conversations that I will never forget.
My heart is full of joy knowing Pat is again with her beloved Curtis.

I love you all.
Love each other.

Message from Lee Ann Trowbridge

So saddened by the passing of my Aunt Pat, but I imagine that she is having a joyous reunion with Uncle Curt and all her family and friends who preceded her. Although our family didn't get to see her and her family often, I have wonderful memories of visiting them in McAlester. Sending sympathy and condolences to my cousins and their families. Her absence will be felt for a long time to come but the memories she left for us will live on in our hearts and keep her alive there. She will be missed.
